Basic Education project (BEP)

The Challenge:

One in every five of the world’s out-of-school children live in Nigeria. This translates to more than 10 million children of primary school age between the ages of 5 and 14.

Tackling this huge gap would require building and equipping of at least 200 thousand classrooms and employing about the same number of teachers.

Unfortunately, the annual educational budget of the federal government has not changed much, still falls below the minimum of 15% of total budget recommended by UNESCO, and doesn’t seem to offer much hope.

In the absence of adequate intervention from authorities concerned, PASDO is doing it’s bid to take Nigerian children away from the streets to put them in the classrooms.
This task has neither been easy nor inexpensive for us.

Yet, in a volatile environment such as you have in Nigeria, where uneducated children are highly vulnerable to social vices, we draw strength in knowing that whatever difficulty and high cost at which our intervention comes is way cheaper than the cost of harboring or rehabilitating drug addicts, armed robbers, kidnappers, terrorists and the likes.

What PASDO is doing:

PASDO runs a Basic Education Project (BEP) which aims to increase primary and secondary school enrollment for the millions of out-of-school children in Nigeria.
PASDO achieves this aim by getting directly involved in the construction and equipping of classrooms, and in the provision of other necessary educational facilities.

For example, for the second phase of its Basic Education Project at Cardinal International Academy, North Central Nigeria, which is at over 70 per cent completion, PASDO is constructing additional 12 classrooms within a two storey building that can lead to the enrollment of 600 primary and secondary school children.
